One of the features I was interested in trying on my own was the new physics system FIFA 23 Coins. In the wake of HyperMotion 2 being touted as an opportunity to bring more realistic mechanics into the game I wanted to test what the changes did to have an actual impact. There's an uncertain outcome on this subject. On one side, you'll see the new ball physics on display whenever you switch the play. The ball spins and turns realistically as you track the ball's trajectory.
On the other hand the elements EA has highlighted in the pre-release, such as collision physics and deflections are and feel similar to the previous year. While the weight of the players has increased for the better, players still collide with each other , resulting in unrealistic collisions, especially when considering the habit of keeping that hand glued to that sprint button.
The new deflections resulting from the extended leg or foot can only be observed in replay, and replays I've watched, I've noticed that these shots particularly the power version -- can cause injuries that are painful. Deflections and 50-50s remain a favorite of the AI particularly when you become accustomed to the new body forms and what they mean in terms of acceleration.
HyperMotion, realistic physics and HyperMotion just do not work. There's still too much sliding and unnatural movements that detract from what could be real-world outcomes. Sliders such as OS Community Sliders can help slow the game and make it more realistic, but they're only capable of doing so much in terms of physics.
The majority of the new gameplay features found in FIFA 23 all stem from one thing, HyperMotion 2. HyperMotion forms the basis the game is built on, but it's not to not be misinterpreted as the engine of FIFA. Through 11-on-11 motion capture via Xsens outfits, EA was able to create realistic-looking animations and integrate them into a computer system via Machine Learning, which is supposed to be able produce animations on fly and produce "true-to-life" replicas buy FUT 23 Coins. In the context of FIFA 23, here's what's new in HyperMotion 2. And what it can do to compete.
